Episode 18: Tinteaux and Jean at Fleur de Lys Boutique Hotel

Published on 28 August 2025 at 10:25

Jean eased the van through the iron gate off Royal Street as Tinteaux tipped his baseball cap and surveyed the Fleur de Lys Boutique Hotel. Century-old single-pane windows gleamed under the sun, while inside the rooms struggled to stay cool despite pounding A/C.

The Single-Pane Predicament

The hotel’s historic charm came with a price:

  • Thin glass inviting relentless solar heat

  • Guests fighting noisy compressors for a sliver of relief

  • Antique furnishings and crystal fixtures at risk of UV damage

Jean tapped her clipboard. “We need max heat rejection—without sacrificing those courtyard views.” Tinteaux cracked open his Tintelligence™ playbook, ready for action.

Tintelligence™ in Action

  1. Measure and Map

    • Note each window’s size, orientation, and ornate iron grills

    • Track sun-path angles

  2. Define Goals

    • Drop interior temps by at least 10°F

    • Preserve 80% visible light transmission for guests’ French Quarter vistas

  3. Film Selection

    • SunTek UltraVision film for high solar rejection and crystal-clear views

    • 99% UV blockage to safeguard wallpaper and antiques

Armed with precision cutters, slip solution, microfiber towels, and pro-grade squeegees, they were ready.

Precision Installation

In Room 207, Tinteaux held the film steady while Jean misted the glass and eased the film into place. They slid it carefully around each decorative muntin and iron detail.

Tinteaux (grinning under his cap): “We’ve got the patience and perfect technique.” Jean: “And a slip solution that lets us finesse every last bubble.”

With expertly cut edges and final squeegee passes, the film lay flawlessly.

The Cool-Down Reveal

By afternoon, Room 207 felt like a sanctuary. Thermometers read a 12°F drop. Guests lingered longer with their Hurricanes, marveling that their view of Jackson Square remained untouched, even as the sweltering heat vanished.

Jean smiled, blade in hand. “Hospitality just got a whole lot cooler.” Tinteaux tipped his baseball cap in triumph.

What’s Next for THE Team?

With Fleur de Lys refreshed, Jean and Tinteaux set their sights on a Creole cottage in the Bywater—where stained-glass transoms promise an even trickier tinting challenge.

Stay tuned for the next episode of Tinteaux and Jean, where Tintelligence™ meets New Orleans tradition.
